Additionally, several settings exist that will disable the <em>File and Directory Restoration<\/em> interfaces in cPanel &#038; WHM under certain conditions. For more information, read the How to Manage Metadata Settings document.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The <em>File and Directory Restoration<\/em> interface allows you to restore items from the local backups of your cPanel account users.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout callout-info\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Note:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>This interface allows you to restore items from <strong>only<\/strong> local backup files. If you wish to restore items from remote backup files, you <strong>must<\/strong> transfer the desired remote backup files to the local server.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>This interface does <strong>not<\/strong> allow you to restore a cPanel account\u2019s <code>.cpanel<\/code> and <code>mail<\/code> directories. To restore these directories, you <strong>must<\/strong> perform a full account backup restoration.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The system will restore deleted files and will overwrite existing files.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"the-file-and-directory-restoration-interface\">The File and Directory Restoration interface<\/h2>\n<p>To begin, select a cPanel account name from the list and click <em>View Backups<\/em>. The next interface contains two sections, <em>Files and Directories<\/em> and <em>Backups<\/em>. The <em>Files and Directories<\/em> section shows the files and directories that contain backups. The backups will appear in the <em>Backups<\/em> section.<\/p>\n<p>You can access backups from this interface in two ways. You can enter a direct path to the file or directory, or you can browse through files and directories to find the file that you wish to restore.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout callout-info\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Note:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n<p>You can set the number of backups that the local disk stores in WHM\u2019s <em>Backup Configuration<\/em> interface (<em>WHM &gt;&gt; Home &gt;&gt; Backup &gt;&gt; Backup Configuration<\/em>). Edit the <em>Retention<\/em> setting under the Scheduling and Retention section.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 id=\"enter-a-direct-path-to-restore-a-file-or-directory\">Enter a direct path to restore a file or directory<\/h3>\n<div class=\"callout callout-info\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Note:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n        Select <em>Browse files and directories<\/em> to view a directory\u2019s contents. The system will <strong>not<\/strong> show a directory\u2019s contents when you select <em>Enter a path<\/em>.\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>You can restore a file or directory from a direct path through your cPanel account\u2019s home directory. To do so, perform the following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>In the <em>Files and Directories<\/em> section, select <em>Enter a path<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Enter the direct path to the file or directory in the text box. The text box\u2019s path is the cPanel account user\u2019s home directory path.  For example, enter <code>public_html<\/code> in the text box for the direct path to the <code>\/home\/user\/public_html<\/code> directory. In this directory path, user represents the cPanel account\u2019s username.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Show Backups<\/em> to list the backups for that file or directory. The backups will appear in the <em>Backups<\/em> section of the interface.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>In the <em>Backups<\/em> section, choose the backup that you wish to restore and click <em>Restore<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The system will ask you to confirm the restoration. Click <em>Restore<\/em> to confirm. A success or failure message will appear.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 id=\"browse-your-home-directory-to-restore-a-file-or-directory\">Browse your home directory to restore a file or directory<\/h3>\n<p>You can browse through the home directory to find the file or directory that you wish to restore. To do so, perform the following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>In the <em>Files and Directories<\/em> section, select <em>Browse files and directories<\/em>. The contents of the cPanel account user\u2019s home directory will appear.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To see a directory\u2019s contents, click on the directory\u2019s name.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Show Backups<\/em> to list the backups for that file or directory. The backups will appear in the <em>Backups<\/em> section of the interface.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>In the <em>Backups<\/em> section, choose the backup that you wish to restore and click <em>Restore<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The system will ask you to confirm the restoration. Click <em>Restore<\/em> to confirm.
