{"id":573,"date":"2021-07-23T12:33:11","date_gmt":"2021-07-23T12:33:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssdsunucum.com\/blog\/amazon-lightsail-instance-management\/"},"modified":"2021-07-23T12:33:11","modified_gmt":"2021-07-23T12:33:11","slug":"amazon-lightsail-instance-management","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ssdsunucum.com\/blog\/amazon-lightsail-instance-management\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazon Lightsail Instance Management"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<div class=\"col-md-9\">\n<div class=\"flex-column flex-md-row article-header\"><\/div>\n<hr>\n<h2 id=\"overview\">Overview<\/h2>\n<p>This document describes common instance management tasks that your cPanel &#038; WHM instance on Amazon Lightsail\u2122 may require.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout callout-info\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Note:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n<p>For more information about Amazon Lightsail instance management, read Amazon\u2019s <em>Managing your Amazon Lightsail instance<\/em> documentation.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"access-your-instance\">Access your instance<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Log in to your Amazon Lightsail account.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The dashboard will display your instance on the <em>Instances<\/em> tab.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div class=\"callout callout-info\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Note:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n<p>For information on launching an Amazon Lightsail instance, read our <em>Launch an Amazon Lightsail Instance<\/em> documentation.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"manage-instances\">Manage instances<\/h2>\n<div class=\"callout callout-warning\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Important:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n<ul>\n<li>We <strong>strongly<\/strong> recommend that you stop unused instances to avoid unnecessary costs.<\/li>\n<li>If you stop an instance, Amazon Lightsail retains the instance\u2019s basic information, but removes some data. For example, when you restart the instance, Amazon Lightsail will generate a new IP address <strong>unless<\/strong> you attached a static IP address.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>To start, stop, reboot, or terminate an instance, perform the following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Log in to your Amazon Lightsail account.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the three dot menu icon next to your instance\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select the desired action from the menu:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Connect<\/em> \u2014 Connect to your instance with a browser based SSH client.<\/li>\n<li><em>Manage<\/em> \u2014 Open your instance in the Amazon Lightsail interface. You can also click your instance\u2019s name.<\/li>\n<li><em>Stop<\/em> \u2014 Pause the instance and retain some, but not all, of its data. This action is only available while an instance is running.<\/li>\n<li><em>Start<\/em> \u2014 Restart a previously stopped instance.<\/li>\n<li><em>Reboot<\/em> \u2014 Reboot the instance. You may need to reboot your instance after making changes.<\/li>\n<li><em>Delete<\/em> \u2014 Delete the instance. If you attached a static IP address to your instance the IP address will remain on your account. You can attach it to a different instance or delete it separately.\n<div class=\"callout callout-danger\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Warning:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n<p>When you delete an instance, the system will delete the instance\u2019s data. You <strong>cannot<\/strong> restore a deleted instance.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A confirmation message will appear once you select an action. Confirm your action.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"manage-firewall-ports\">Manage firewall ports<\/h2>\n<p>When you first create an Amazon Lightsail instance, the set up process only opens a select few ports. This is to provide the safest possible experience to novice users. However, some core functionality requires you to manually open further ports. The following firewall ports are open by default:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>SSH:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>TCP &#8211; 22<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>DNS:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>UDP &#8211; 53<\/li>\n<li>TCP &#8211; 53<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>HTTP:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>TCP &#8211; 80<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>HTTPS:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>TCP &#8211; 443<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Custom:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>TCP &#8211; 2078<\/li>\n<li>TCP &#8211; 2083<\/li>\n<li>TCP &#8211; 2087<\/li>\n<li>TCP &#8211; 2089<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 id=\"open-a-firewall-port\">Open a firewall port<\/h3>\n<p>To open ports and enable further features, perform the following actions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Determine which ports are necessary.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Log in to your Amazon Lightsail account.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click your instance\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the <em>Networking<\/em> tab. Your instance\u2019s <em>Networking<\/em> interface will appear.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Scroll to the <em>Firewall<\/em> section and click <em>Add rule<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Enter the port information in the appropriate boxes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout callout-info\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Note:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n<p>The necessary <em>Protocol<\/em> and <em>Port or range<\/em> information can be found in the table in our How to Configure Your Firewall for cPanel &#038; WHM Services documentation. You can leave the <em>Application<\/em> field set to <code>custom<\/code>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Create<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 id=\"close-a-firewall-port\">Close a firewall port<\/h3>\n<p>To close firewall ports, perform the following actions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Determine which ports are necessary.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Log in to your Amazon Lightsail account.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click your instance\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the <em>Networking<\/em> tab. Your virtual machine\u2019s <em>Networking<\/em> interface will appear.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Scroll to the <em>Firewall<\/em> section and locate the port to close.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the trash can icon in that port\u2019s row.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 id=\"manage-or-delete-static-ip-addresses\">Manage or delete static IP addresses<\/h2>\n<p>To manage or delete IP addresses, perform the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Log in to your Amazon Lightsail account.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the <em>Networking<\/em> tab. The <em>Networking<\/em> interface will appear.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the three dot menu icon next to the Static IP address\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select the desired action from the menu:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Manage<\/em> \u2014 Open the IP address interface. From that interface you can attach, detach, or view the details of your IP address.<\/li>\n<li><em>Delete<\/em> \u2014 Delete this IP address.\n<div class=\"callout callout-info\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Note:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n<p>Static IP addresses are free when attached to an instance but incur charges when detached. We recommend you delete static IP addresses you do not intend to reuse.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 id=\"delete-an-instance\">Delete an instance<\/h2>\n<p>To delete an instance, perform the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Log in to your Amazon Lightsail account.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click your instance\u2019s name. The management interface will appear.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the <em>Delete<\/em> tab.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Delete instance<\/em>. A confirmation message will appear.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Yes, delete<\/em>. Once the deletion process starts, you will return to the Amazon Lightsail console.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>If you had attached a static IP address to the instance, it will remain on your account. Static IP addresses are free when attached to an instance but incur charges when detached.
