{"id":540,"date":"2021-07-23T12:32:28","date_gmt":"2021-07-23T12:32:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssdsunucum.com\/blog\/how-to-copy-an-account-with-ssh-keys\/"},"modified":"2021-07-23T12:32:28","modified_gmt":"2021-07-23T12:32:28","slug":"how-to-copy-an-account-with-ssh-keys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ssdsunucum.com\/blog\/how-to-copy-an-account-with-ssh-keys\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Copy an Account with SSH Keys"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<div class=\"col-md-9\">\n<div class=\"flex-column flex-md-row article-header\"><\/div>\n<hr>\n<h2 id=\"overview\">Overview<\/h2>\n<p>This document describes how to use SSH keys to securely copy an account from one server (<strong>source<\/strong> server) to another server (<strong>destination<\/strong> server).<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout callout-info\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Note:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n<p>This document uses the following definitions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>destination<\/strong> server is the server to which you wish to copy the account.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>source<\/strong> server is the server from which you wish to copy the account, and on which the account already existed.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout callout-warning\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Important:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n<ul>\n<li>Use the public key on the <strong>source<\/strong> server <strong>only<\/strong>. <strong>Do not import the private key into the SSH keys of the source server<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If you experience problems with session timeouts, increase the number of seconds in the <em>Number of second an SSH connection related to an account transfer may be inactive before timing out setting in the System<\/em> section of the <em>Tweak Settings<\/em> interface (<em>WHM &gt;&gt; Home &gt;&gt; Server Configuration &gt;&gt; Tweak Settings<\/em>).<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"securely-copy-an-account-with-ssh-keys\">Securely copy an account with SSH keys<\/h2>\n<div class=\"callout callout-warning\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Important:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n<p>You <strong>must<\/strong> perform all of the actions below as the <code>root<\/code> user.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>To use SSH keys to securely move an account from the <strong>source<\/strong> server to the <strong>destination<\/strong> server, perform the following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <strong>destination<\/strong> server.<\/li>\n<li>Use WHM\u2019s <em>Manage root\u2019s SSH Keys<\/em> interface <em>(WHM &gt;&gt; Home &gt;&gt; Security Center &gt;&gt; Manage root\u2019s SSH Keys)<\/em> to generate, authorize, and download a new SSH key pair.<\/li>\n<li>Log in to the <strong>source<\/strong> server.<\/li>\n<li>Use WHM\u2019s <em>Manage root\u2019s SSH Keys<\/em> interface <em>(WHM &gt;&gt; Home &gt;&gt; Security Center &gt;&gt; Manage root\u2019s SSH Keys)<\/em> to import the public key that you generated.\n<ul>\n<li>Use a unique key name for this key.<\/li>\n<li>Include the password, if necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Paste the public key in the <em>Paste the Public Key<\/em> text box.\n<div class=\"callout callout-danger\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Warning:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n<p>Do <strong>not<\/strong> paste in the private key. The private key <strong>must<\/strong> remain on the <strong>destination<\/strong> server.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Click <em>Import<\/em>, and then click <em>Return to SSH Manager<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Locate the key in the <em>Public Keys<\/em> table and click <em>Manage Authorization<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Click <em>Authorize<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Log in to the <strong>destination<\/strong> server.<\/li>\n<li>Use WHM\u2019s <em>Transfer Tool<\/em> interface <em>(WHM &gt;&gt; Home  &gt;&gt; Transfers &gt;&gt; Transfer Tool)<\/em> to perform the account transfer with the following settings:\n<ul>\n<li>Enter the appropriate information for the <strong>source<\/strong> server.<\/li>\n<li>Under <em>Login<\/em>, select <em>Root<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Under <em>Authentication Method<\/em>, select <em>SSH Public Key<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the key that you generated in Step 2 from the <em>SSH Key<\/em> menu.<\/li>\n<li>If necessary, enter the SSH key\u2019s passphrase in the <em>SSH Key Passphrase<\/em> text box.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Overview This document describes how to use SSH keys to securely copy an account from one server (source server) to another server (destination server).
