Overview<\/h2>\n

The AutoConfigure (AutoConfig) and Autodiscover services quickly and easily configure a user\u2019s mail client to receive their cPanel email. These services work with Microsoft Outlook\u00ae, Outlook Express\u00ae, Thunderbird, and most other popular mail clients.<\/p>\n

The Autodiscover feature doesn\u2019t work with email addresses that you add in the following mail clients:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Microsoft Outlook 2016<\/li>\n
  • Microsoft Outlook 2019<\/li>\n
  • Microsoft Outlook for Office 365<\/li>\n
  • Any mobile mail client.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    Enable AutoConfig and Autodiscover<\/h2>\n

    To enable AutoConfig and Autodiscover, perform the following steps:<\/p>\n

    • In cPanel & WHM version 76, we renamed the following settings:\n
        \n
      • The Proxy subdomains<\/em> setting to Service subdomains<\/em>.<\/li>\n
      • The Thunderbird and Outlook autodiscover and autoconfig support (enables proxy subdomain and SRV record creation)<\/em> setting to Thunderbird and Outlook autodiscover and autoconfig support (enables service subdomain and SRV record creation)<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

        1. Navigate to the Domains<\/em> section of WHM\u2019s Tweak Settings<\/em> interface (WHM >> Home >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings<\/em>).<\/li>\n
        2. Locate the Service subdomains<\/em> setting and select On<\/em>.<\/li>\n
        3. Locate the Thunderbird and Outlook autodiscover and autoconfig support (enables service subdomain and SRV record creation)<\/em> setting and select On<\/em>.<\/li>\n
        4. Click Save<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Additional settings<\/h2>\n

          You can find the following additional AutoConfig and Autodiscover settings in the Domains<\/em> section of WHM\u2019s Tweak Settings<\/em> interface (WHM >> Home >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings<\/em>):<\/p>\n

            Preferred mail service to configure to use for Thunderbird and Outlook\u00ae autodiscover and autoconfig support<\/em> \u2014 This setting allows you to choose the email transfer method to use with Thunderbird and Outlook with Autodiscover and AutoConfig support.<\/p>\n

              \n
            • This setting defaults to imap<\/em>.\n
              \n
              Note:<\/div>\n

              • We recommend that you select IMAP and not POP3.<\/li>\n
              • You must enable the Thunderbird and Outlook autodiscover and autoconfig support (enables service subdomain and SRV record creation) option in order to configure this setting.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
              • \n

                Host to publish in the SRV records for Outlook autodiscover support.<\/em> \u2014 Microsoft Outlook\u2019s Autodiscover service searches DNS for an SRV record for an email inbox\u2019s domain that points to a particular server for Autodiscover. By default, this server is cpanelemaildiscovery.cpanel.net<\/code>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                This setting allows system administrators to perform the following actions:<\/p>\n

                  \n
                • Choose the host that the system publishes to the SRV records.<\/li>\n
                • Change the default host if they have an SSL-enabled host with an SSL certificate that a Certificate Authority signs.<\/li>\n
                • Use their own server for Outlook\u00ae Autodiscover. Enter that server\u2019s Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) in the available text box.<\/li>\n
                • When you enable the Host to publish in the SRV records for Outlook autodiscover support<\/em> feature, the system queries the server that you specify for the Autodiscover settings.<\/li>\n
                • You must<\/strong> have a custom XML file for this feature to function properly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  This setting defaults to cpanelemaildiscovery.cpanel.net<\/code>.<\/p>\n

                  • You must enable the Thunderbird and Outlook autodiscover and autoconfig support (enables service subdomain and SRV record creation) option in order to configure this setting.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

                    We recommend that you use signed certificates that a Certificate Authority (CA) signed, rather than self-signed certificates, which may cause security issues. If you use a self-signed certificate, the browser may generate a warning message.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

                    Use AutoConfig and Autodiscover<\/h2>\n

                    To use AutoConfig and Autodiscover, enter a cPanel email address and password in your mail client. The services will automatically configure your mail client.<\/p>\n

                    Apple mail clients<\/h3>\n

                    Apple\u00ae mail clients do not<\/strong> support AutoConfig or AutoDiscover for IMAP servers. To use AutoConfig and AutoDiscover with Apple products, your server must<\/strong> run Exchange rather than IMAP.<\/p>\n
