We <strong>strongly<\/strong> recommend that you read the rest of our documentation and configure all of the useful features on your cPanel &#038; WHM server.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>You can skip any steps that you have already performed (for example, Log in to WHM or Set the hostname).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Due to networking requirements, you <strong>cannot<\/strong> run an IPv6-only cPanel &#038; WHM server. You <strong>must<\/strong> have at least one IPv4 address.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"prepare-whm\">Prepare WHM<\/h2>\n<p>This section describes the minimum necessary configuration for a server to host a website.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"log-in-to-whm\">Log in to WHM<\/h3>\n<div class=\"callout callout-danger\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Warning:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n<p>You <strong>must<\/strong> purchase a license for cPanel &#038; WHM. New installations automatically receive a free 15-day trial license.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>To log in to WHM, perform the following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Navigate to the following URL, where <code>IPADDRESS<\/code> represents your server\u2019s IP address:\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"highlight\">\n<pre style=\"color:#f8f8f2;background-color:#272822;-moz-tab-size:4;-o-tab-size:4;tab-size:4\"><code class=\"language-perl\" data-lang=\"perl\">  https:<span style=\"color:#e6db74\">\/\/<\/span>IPADDRESS:2087<span style=\"color:#f92672\">\/<\/span>\n<\/code><\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Enter the <code>root<\/code> username and password.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Log in<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Agree to our software license terms. A new interface will appear.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Enter your email address in the <em>Email Address<\/em> text box.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Enter your default nameservers in the <em>Nameservers<\/em> text boxes. Your hosting provider or networking provider should provide these.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Finish<\/em>. Most hosting providers will configure your server\u2019s hostname as part of the provisioning process. However, you may need to perform these steps manually:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Navigate to WHM\u2019s <em>Change Hostname<\/em> interface (<em>WHM &gt;&gt; Home &gt;&gt; Networking Setup &gt;&gt; Change Hostname<\/em>).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>If you wish to change the hostname, enter a new hostname in the text box.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Change<\/em>. A confirmation message will appear.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Add an A entry for your hostname<\/em>. A new interface will appear that displays the main IP address of the server.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Add Entry<\/em>. Most hosting providers will configure your server\u2019s resolvers as part of the provisioning process.<\/p>\n<p>However, you may need to perform this step manually.<\/p>\n<p>To configure DNS resolvers on your server, perform the following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Navigate to WHM\u2019s <em>Resolver Configuration<\/em> interface (<em>WHM &gt;&gt; Home &gt;&gt; Networking Setup &gt;&gt; Resolver Configuration<\/em>).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Proceed<\/em>. A new interface will appear.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Enter the desired IPv4 or IPv6 addresses in the <em>Primary Resolver<\/em> and <em>Secondary Resolver<\/em> text boxes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout callout-info\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Note:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n<p>If your hosting provider did not give you this information, you can use Google\u2019s\u00ae nameservers (<code>8.8.8.8<\/code> and <code>8.8.4.4<\/code>).<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>To configure a third resolver, enter that IP address in the <em>Tertiary Resolver<\/em> text box.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Continue<\/em>. Instead, contact your domain registrar and hosting provider for information on how to set your DNS registration and records.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Your server\u2019s nameservers allow you to host your own DNS entries for sites. This allows you to control the branding of domains on your server when others look up information about them.<\/p>\n<p>To select and configure nameservers on your server, perform the following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Navigate to WHM\u2019s <em>Nameserver Selection<\/em> interface (<em>WHM &gt;&gt; Home &gt;&gt; Service Configuration &gt;&gt; Nameserver Selection<\/em>)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select the nameserver software that you wish to use.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Save<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Navigate to WHM\u2019s <em>DNS Zone Manager<\/em> interface (<em>WHM &gt;&gt; Home &gt;&gt; DNS Functions &gt;&gt; DNS Zone Manager<\/em>).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select your hostname\u2019s zone file and click <em>Edit<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Add A records for NS1 and NS2 entries.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Change the NS entries to your nameservers.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Save<\/em>. However, many hosting providers do <strong>not<\/strong> delegate authority for PTR records to their customers. Contact your hosting provider for assistance.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, read our How to Configure Reverse DNS for BIND in WHM documentation.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"configure-wordpress-manager\">Configure WordPress Manager<\/h3>\n<p>If you plan to use WordPress\u00ae to create your website, perform the following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Navigate to WHM\u2019s <em>Install cPAddons Site Software<\/em> interface (<em>WHM &gt;&gt; Home &gt;&gt; cPanel &gt;&gt; Install cPAddons Site Software<\/em>).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select the checkbox next to the <em>WordPress<\/em> addon.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Update cPAddon Config<\/em>. The interface will suggest a username.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Enter a password and confirm it. The <em>Password Generator<\/em> feature can generate a strong password for you.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Enter a contact email address for the account.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Create<\/em>. The <em>WordPress Manager<\/em> interface will appear.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>New Site<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Enter the domain on which to install the site. Or you can install it on a subdomain (for example, <code>blog.example.com<\/code>).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Install<\/em>. The interface will display a success message with the username and password for WordPress.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Navigate to your domain. A new window will appear<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Enter your cPanel account\u2019s password.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>OK<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Configure Client Access<\/em> next to the system user email account.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select your operating system.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Install the software.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Connect to your Web Disk account.
