If an attacker were to compromise this password, they would have access to any of your server\u2019s databases.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>By default, cPanel &#038; WHM\u2019s implementation of MySQL stores the MySQL root account password in the <code>\/root\/.my.cnf<\/code> configuration file. Do <strong>not<\/strong> edit this file manually.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout callout-info\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Note:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n        You do <strong>not<\/strong> need to remember this password unless you plan to log in to MySQL as the <code>root<\/code> user.\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"create-password\">Create password<\/h2>\n<p>To set the MySQL <code>root<\/code> password, perform the following steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Enter and confirm the new password in the appropriate text boxes. <\/p>\n<div class=\"callout callout-info\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Note:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n<ul>\n<li>The system evaluates the password that you enter on a scale of 100 points. <code>0<\/code> indicates a weak password, while <code>100<\/code> indicates a very secure password.<\/li>\n<li>Some web hosts require a minimum password strength. A green password <em>Strength<\/em> meter indicates that the password is equal to or greater than the required password strength.<\/li>\n<li>Click <em>Password Generator<\/em> to generate a strong password. For more information, read our <em>Password &#038; Security<\/em> documentation.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout callout-danger\">\n<div class=\"callout-heading\">Warning:<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout-content\">\n        Do <strong>not<\/strong> use asterisks ( <code>*<\/code> ), periods ( <code>.<\/code> ), or any other special characters in your MySQL root password. If you do, phpMyAdmin will not function. If you use the <em>Password Generator<\/em> feature, select the <em>Numbers<\/em> button under <em>advanced<\/em>.\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click <em>Change Password<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 id=\"remote-mysql\">Remote MySQL<\/h2>\n<p>If you use a remote MySQL server, you <strong>must<\/strong> choose whether you change the local or the remote server\u2019s root password.
